BRAIN MEMS Inclinometer

BRAIN MEMS Inclinometer

The B.R.A.IN MEMS Inclinometer System is a highly specialized tool designed to monitor ground displacement or structural movement, particularly in applications involving slopes, embankments, retaining walls, and other structures susceptible to deformation.

The system includes the BRAIN App for survey management, a digital inclinometer probe with Biaxial digital MEMS probes for vertical measurements and Uniaxial digital MEMS probes for horizontal measurements, a Bluetooth reel with a control cable, offering comprehensive analysis and actionable insights for geotechnical and structural monitoring.

Typically, the user should select bill of materials based on deployment scenario:

  1. BRAIN (Borehole Readout Array for Inclinometers)
  2. Choose Light Cable length (30m, 60m, 100m, 150m, 200m)
  3. Klion Software (additional accessory designed to manage vertical and horizontal inclinometer readings, spiral meter compensation and T-Rex extensometer surveys)
  4. Choose casings ( Red stripe, Easy lock and Quick joint)

Key features of different types of casings:

Feature Red Stripe Casing Quick Joint Casing Easy Lock ABS Casing
Material ABS/PVC High-quality ABS ABS
Assembly Manual (rivet/tape) Quick with pre-fitted couplings and alignment keys Pre-assembled coupling, self-aligning junction
Waterproofing Requires manual sealing O-rings prevent ingress of grout or water O-rings ensure waterproof joints
Applications Basic monitoring Ideal for dams, embankments, deep boreholes Advanced monitoring (landslides, dams, tunnels)
Ease of Use Moderate (manual assembly) High (quick, efficient assembly) Very High (easy and secure assembly)

Structural Monitoring Application Areas:

  • Geotechnical Engineers - analysing and monitoring soil and ground behaviour, using the system for monitoring subsurface displacements and stability of foundations, slopes, and embankments.
  • Construction and Civil Engineering Companies - in large infrastructure projects such as dams, tunnels, highways, bridges, and buildings, where monitoring structural stability is critical.
  • Mining and Quarry Operators - monitoring the stability of pit slopes, waste dumps, and other structures in mining environments to ensure safety and reduce the risk of landslides.
  • Environmental Consultants - in environmental assessments and monitoring, using the system to assess land movement, soil stability, and the impact of environmental factors on structures.
  • Government Agencies - for infrastructure safety, land stability, and disaster prevention, such as in areas prone to landslides, earthquakes, or heavy construction.
  • Research Institutions and Universities – For studying geotechnical behaviour, soil mechanics, and structural integrity, using the system for experimental monitoring and data collection.
  • Retaining Wall and Slope Stabilization Specialists - On designing and monitoring the stability of retaining walls and slope stabilization systems.
