Working Principle:

The Multipoint Vibrating Wire Piezometer operates on the principle of vibrating wire technology. It consists of a vibrating wire sensor, which is placed within a pressure chamber. When pore-water pressure is applied to the piezometer, it causes a deformation of the diaphragm within the pressure chamber.

This deformation affects the tension in the vibrating wire, altering its frequency of vibration. The vibrating wire is excited by an electromagnetic coil, and its frequency is directly related to the applied pressure.

A readout device measures the change in frequency, which is then converted into a corresponding pressure value. The piezometer can be equipped with multiple levels of sensors to measure pore-water pressure at various depths within the same borehole, providing a comprehensive profile of pressure changes in soil or rock strata. This method ensures highly accurate, stable, and long-term monitoring of pore-water pressure in geotechnical and structural applications.
