MD-Profile In-Place Inclinometer

MD-Profile in-place inclinometer probes are designed to use as an array of probes placed within internally flush tubes (groove less tubes) of reduced dimensions (1.5” or 2”), making the cost of drilling lower than traditional inclinometer casings.

The system is suitable for geotechnical and structural applications, where vertical or horizontal accurate profiling is required. Each profile gauge segment is mechanically and electrically linked to one another through connectors in a RS485 Modbus daisy chain configuration.

Its unique centring device allows to keep the orientation of the whole chain in the middle of the tube and to avoid unwanted movements is acquired directly by dataloggers (OMNIAlog or WR-Log). The inclination data are provided directly in engineering units.

Each gauge is also equipped with sensors for internal diagnostics at each measuring point (temperature and voltage supply). Customers may utilize any electronic device compatible with RS485 and Modbus RTU protocol as a logger.

Applications include detecting the embankment settlement and deformation  in railways, ground horizontal movement and deformation (cumulative displacement), during underground tunnelling applications, structure horizontal movement and deformation of retaining walls, to detect the diaphragm wall horizontal movement and deflection and investigating landslide prone areas and open pit mines for measuring ground or rock horizontal movement and deformation.

Typically, the user should select bill of materials based on deployment scenario:

1.      MD-Profile Inclinometer based upon application and number of axis (Vertical, biaxial or horizontal, uniaxial)

2.      Casing  Protective casing: MDP tube 1.5" or  2.0" or inclinometer casing model S143 (Easy-Lock Inclinometer Casing)

3.      Data Logger - Device for storing and processing data from the inclinometer probes such as OMNIAlog, WR-Log wireless node or MIND portable readout.

The BH-Profile In-Place Inclinometer is featured in association with SISGEO Italy, the world leader in Geotechnical & Structural Health Monitoring Instrumentation.

The MD-Profile In-Place Inclinometer is used for monitoring and measuring ground movements in geotechnical applications. Some key applications include:

  • Railway Embankments: Settlement & deformation of railway embankments.
  • Retaining Walls and Slurry Walls: Monitoring lateral movements to ensure structural integrity.
  • Landslide Monitoring: Detects and tracks soil movements to predict and manage potential landslides.
  • Dam Safety Monitoring: Ensures the stability of dam structures by monitoring deformations and shifts.
  • Tunnel and Excavation Monitoring: Measures ground and structural movements during tunnel construction or excavation.
  • Bridges and High-Rise Buildings: Monitors tilting and deformations of buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure.
  • Slope Stability Monitoring: Monitors slopes and embankments to prevent failures in areas prone to shifting ground.
  • Mining Operations: Investigating open pit mines for measuring ground or rock horizontal movement and deformation.
  • Earthquake Effects: Tracks soil deformation caused by seismic activities to evaluate ground stability post-earthquake.
  • LNG tanks: For permanent monitoring of structural stability through horizontal deployment below tanks.
