TILLI Portable Tiltmeter

The TILLI Portable Tiltmeter is a highly accurate device designed for geotechnical and structural health monitoring, specifically for detecting small angular changes or tilts in structures or surfaces.

TILLI is a portable instrument housed in a durable stainless-steel frame, with an aluminium sensor enclosure that contains a self-compensating MEMS accelerometer. The frame surfaces are precisely machined to ensure accurate positioning during measurements.

To use the TILLI, it is placed on a tilt plate that is permanently fixed to the structure's surface. The instrument’s bottom surface is used for measurements with horizontally mounted tilt plates, while the side surface is intended for vertically mounted tilt plates. Readings in two orthogonal directions can be obtained by rotating the instrument 90° on the horizontal surface. For more accurate results, conjugate measurements (180° rotation) help eliminate any instrumental offsets.

Typically, the user should select bill of materials based on deployment scenario:

  1. Tilli MEMS Sensor: MEMS-based high-precision sensor that measures the tilt angles.
  2. TILT PLATE: The tilt plate serves as a stable reference point or base for the device, ensuring that the tiltmeter's measurements are accurate and aligned with the structure being monitored.
  3. MIND Portable Readout: A compact, multichannel readout unit for local readings of Sisgeo instruments.
  4. CRD-400 READOUT: CRD-400 is a new generation multipurpose readout designed to take readings of all instruments including vibrating wire.

Applications of the TILLI Portable Tiltmeter

  • Structural Health Monitoring – Monitoring buildings, bridges, towers, and retaining walls for structural movements.
  • Tunnel and Underground Construction – Measuring deformations in tunnel linings and underground structures.
  • Slope Stability Monitoring – Tracking movements in embankments, dams, and natural slopes to detect landslides or settlement.
  • Bridge Monitoring – Assessing long-term tilt variations in bridge piers and decks.
  • Historical Monument Preservation – Detecting slow deformations in heritage structures.
  • Excavation and Deep Foundations – Monitoring retaining walls, diaphragm walls, and excavation-induced deformations.
  • Wind Turbine and Industrial Structures – Ensuring stability of tall structures under dynamic loads.
