Active Line Monitoring Series
The Adtran Active Line Monitoring (ALM) Series is an advanced fiber monitoring solution that provides continuous, real-time surveillance of optical fiber networks, enabling operators to proactively manage the health, performance, and security of their fiber infrastructure. Designed for both access and core networks, ALM delivers fast and accurate fault detection while allowing network services to remain fully operational.
Using integrated Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) technology, the ALM Series continuously detects abnormal attenuation, fiber breaks, and potential fiber tapping attempts. When an event occurs, the system instantly generates alarms and pinpoints the exact geographic fault location through seamless integration with Adtran Mosaic Fiber Director, the embedded GUI, or third-party GIS platforms. This provides operators with complete network visibility, enabling faster troubleshooting, reduced service downtime and improved operational efficiency.
The ALM Series is available in 16ALM, 64ALM, and 48ALM-T variants to accommodate different network sizes and deployment requirements. With optional extension units, a single monitoring system can supervise up to 800 optical fibers making it an ideal solution for large-scale telecom, railway, utility, enterprise, FTTH and smart city fiber networks.
For Passive Optical Networks (PON), the 48ALM-T supports Deep PON Assurance (DPA), providing visibility down to individual ONTs without requiring passive reflectors. It supports multi-vendor PON environments and long-distance monitoring of up to 160 km (unidirectional) and 320 km (bidirectional), making it suitable for metro, access, and long-haul FTTH deployments.
Operating non-intrusively at 1650 nm, the ALM Series continuously monitors both live and dark fibers without affecting network traffic. Its precise fault localization, centralized monitoring capabilities, and low-maintenance design help network operators improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs and ensure maximum network availability.
